After my first post you might have been dazed and confused (maybe? no?) wondering why on earth there were no tops featured. Tops are kind of a crucial part of summer, I know, I know, #crazy. But in all honesty, there are sooooo many top trends this summer, I needed a whole post to really do the topic justice.
Again, I just want to stress that I think it's really important to build your closet around the basics that you already own and feel comfortable in. Having the standard plain t-shirts, tanks and jeans are awesome so that you can play around with the other pieces in your wardrobe. If these are things that you don't currently have in your roster, they are probably one of the best investments you will ever make, trust me (I will do a future post on #basics). You're probably like, okay Taylor, but summer tops are soooo cute, can we get to that? And my answer is yes, yes we can.
*Disclaimer* This is not a sponsored post and in no way am I trying to sell these brands to you. These are just pieces that I am currently admiring, but I still like to give credit where credit is due. Now, let's get to the good stuff!
OFF THE SHOULDER
First, we had no shoulder or tube tops, then we had the cold shoulder (still really popular) and now we have off the shoulder. Basically what we can learn from this is that shoulders are in and are not going out of style anytime soon. This style allows for the gypsy queen in all of us to come out and flourish and not to mention it's sexy AF. I love that this style is versatile, it can be paired with regular jeans, shorts or dress pants and still look amazing!
You really can't go wrong with anything sheer for summer time. Sheer fabrics are flowy, breezy and #beautiful, but you have to be sure to get the right size and cut for your body shape or you will be dying to return your gorgeous new top ASAP. So don't skip the change room when it comes to this one! Also, don't be scared to go a size up if you need to, it doesn't say anything about you, just a lot about the material and style of the shirt. Never compromise fit just because the top looks cute, there will be more cute shirts in your size, trust me! You won't regret leaving the shirt behind, you will only regret taking it home and realizing how uncomfortable it is. Sheer fabrics are supposed to be flowy and beautiful, not tight and uncomfortable.
There is something that is just so beautiful about these sleeves. Who knew that just a little bit of extra fabric could make a shirt so feminine! It also gives off a great summer vibe as the sleeve shape allows your arms to move freely, but still gives a bit of coverage so that you can wear it into the night for a toasty bonfire! I would pair these with basic black leggings, dark denim jeans (maybe with some rips if you want to go more casual) or shorts for those extra hot days!
Tie-up shirts are a way to add some flare to your basic t-shirts and button up shirts. In the summer time, you don't always get the opportunity to make an outfit interesting with a cardigan and sometimes those fancy shorts just don't cut it. Bring in the tie-up shirt, it goes great with any basic bottoms (because it too is #basic) and gives your outfit a bit of edge and sex appeal. Loooooove it!
